Exploration Update

9 Aug 2006 07:00

Red Rock Resources plc09 August 2006 RED ROCK RESOURCES PLC Exploration Update - Manganese Resource defined Dated: 9 August 2006 Red Rock Resources plc ("Red Rock" or the "Company") the mineral exploration anddevelopment company focused on advancing iron ore, uranium and manganeseprojects in Australia and East Africa, reports the results of the first phase ofits exploration programme at its Manganese project at Mkushi, Zambia. Following completion of the first phase of a programme of geological fieldworkon the Chiwefwe manganese deposit near Mkushi, an indicated resource has beendefined at the south west extremity of the mineralised zone. The manganese zone extends over some 7 km following the fault line, a geologicalboundary between the Muva upper basement complex to the north and northeast andthe younger intrusive complex to the south and southeast. The Great North Roadpasses through the prospecting license area. Mineralization appears to haveformed as a hydrothermal replacement deposit along faulting and to have avertical or sub-vertical orientation. In the southwest the manganese zone was mapped in surface outcrop and in testpits over a distance of 550 metres. A northeast extension was traced in outcrop, trenches and float rock for a further distance of six kilometres. Geologicalmapping included excavation of twenty test pits and five trenches with a crew of16 - 20 diggers. In the south west area manganese in surface outcrop and in testpits was mapped in detail for a strike length of 550 metres to the northwestalong an average width of 50 metres with a probable depth of 20 metres plus asobserved in production pit no 1. This gives altogether an indicated volume of 550m by 50m by 20m for a totalvolume in the southwest zone of 550,000 cubic metres. Calculating a specificgravity of 4.3 grams per cubic centimetre gives an indicated tonnage of2,365,000 million tonnes of manganese ore. The manganese ore is from good cleanquality material mainly in the form of manganite with an Mn content of over 46%. Further work including the drilling of ten or more holes will now at once takeplace with the objectives of raising the south western area to measured categoryand defining depth, and of establishing indicated and inferred resources in thesix kilometre northeast extension. Sampling results will be available in thecourse of the next weeks. The Company uses the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum ("CIM") Definition Standards for Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves preparedby the CIM Standing Committee on Reserve Definitions. Glossary Basement: the oldest rocks in a given area; thick foundation of ancient crustalrocks Hydrothermal: formed in situ by the action of hot aqueous fluids. Igneous: rocks resulting from the crystallization of molten magma, eitherintrusive or volcanic. Inferred Mineral Resource: that part of a Mineral Resource for which quantityand grade or quality can be estimated on the basis of geological evidence andlimited sampling and reasonably assumed, but not verified, geological and gradecontinuity, gathered through appropriate techniques from locations such asoutcrops, trenches, pits, workings and drill holes. Indicated Mineral Resource: that part of a Mineral Resource for which quantity, grade or quality, densities, shape and physical characteristics, can beestimated with a level of confidence sufficient to support mine planning andevaluation of the economic viability of the deposit, based on detailed andreliable exploration and testing information gathered through appropriatetechniques from locations such as outcrops, trenches, pits, workings and drillholes that are spaced closely enough for geological and grade continuity to bereasonably assumed. Intrusive: of a body of igneous rock that invades older rocks. Manganite: Manganese oxide hydroxide, iron grey to black in colour, formed athigher temperatures than other common Manganese minerals, and usually associatedwith other manganese oxides. Measured Mineral Resource: that part of a Mineral Resource for which quantity, grade or quality, densities, shape, and physical characteristics are so wellestablished that they can be estimated with confidence sufficient to supportproduction planning and evaluation of the economic viability of the deposit, based on detailed and reliable exploration, sampling and testing informationgathered through appropriate techniques from locations such as outcrops, trenches, pits, workings and drill holes that are spaced closely enough toconfirm both geological and grade continuity. Mineral Resource: A Mineral Resource is a concentration or occurrence ofminerals in or on the Earth's crust in such form and quantity and of such agrade or quality that it has reasonable prospects for economic extraction. Mn: the chemical symbol for the metallic element Manganese. Muva Supergroup: Upper Basement sedimentary sequence present in Central andEastern Zambia Declaration The geological information including resource estimates in this report is basedon information compiled by Dr Wolfgang Wiessner, a consulting geologist to RedRock. Dr Wiessner has a Diploma in Geology and a Doctorate in Natural Sciencesfrom the Technical University of Karlsruhe, and is a Member of the GeologicalAssociation of Germany and the OberRhein Geological Association. Dr Wiessner, who has been practising geology for over 25 years, has sufficient experiencewhich is relevant to the style of mineralisation and type of deposit underconsideration and to the activity which he is undertaking to qualify as aqualified person under the AIM Rules. Dr Wiessner consents to the inclusion in this RNS announcement of the mattersbased on his information in the form and context in which it appears.
