Chase Announces 100 Winners in Latest Round of Community Giving Program

5 May 2011 15:28

Chase announced today the 100 charities that will each receive a $25,000 grant from Chase and will advance to Round 2 of the Chase Community Giving Program. These 100 charities now have a chance to receive a $500,000 grant from the bank.

The top 100 charities announced today span 27 states and Washington, D.C., and promote a range of worthy causes from preventing domestic violence and animal abuse to supporting youth arts education and youth leadership programs. These grants will also be used for charities helping the homeless, providing affordable housing for the economically disadvantaged and funding research to cure and raise awareness about a range of medical disorders.

"Facebook users have spoken and voted for some truly incredible and deserving charities. We are delighted that Chase will make a contribution to each of these worthy causes," Kimberly Davis, president of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, said. "We continue to be inspired by the number of outstanding charities that choose to participate in the Chase program and the millions of fans who visit our Facebook page and vote for them. The dedication and enthusiasm of the charities and their supporters is one reason why Chase has committed $25 million for Chase Community Giving to distribute to even more charities over the next two years."

In Round 2, these 100 organizations will have the option to submit a "Big Idea" in 1,000 characters or less describing how they would use $500,000 to further its cause. Charities can also submit a 30-second video and five photos demonstrating their "Big Idea." Beginning May 19, Facebook users will vote again to select the best ideas among the top 100 charities. The 25 charities that receive the most votes will receive between $20,000 and $500,000. The winners of Round 2 will be announced on May 26. Here is the list of the top 100 charities from Round 1:

The Spring 2011 program is the third installment of Chase Community Giving. On March 31, Chase announced a two-year, $25 million commitment to the Chase Community Giving program, which allows Facebook's 500+ million users to choose from hundreds of thousands of charities and vote for them to win grants from Chase. More than 2.5 million Facebook users have "Liked" the Chase Community Giving page. Eligible charities included 501(c)(3) charities with an operating budget from $1 million to $10 million. Later this year, the Chase Community Giving program hosts another contest exclusively for charities with budgets of less than $1 million.

JPMorgan Chase donates a total of more than $150 million annually to thousands of non-profit organizations in local communities, nationally and abroad. This $5 million Facebook effort is in addition to the bank's traditional philanthropic giving.
