INTERSERVE CONSORTIUM REACHES FINANCIAL CLOSE ON c. ยฃ270m ENNISKILLEN HOSPITAL PFI
An Interserve consortium has reached financial close on the contract to create and maintain the new acute hospital at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, worth approximately ยฃ270 million. The consortium was named preferred bidder for the project, the first PFI hospital in Northern Ireland, by the Western Health and Social Care Trust in September 2008.
Interserve will invest approximately ยฃ9.2 million in the project, representing 31.5 per cent of the equity and subordinated debt. The other partners in the consortium are Allied Irish Banks p.l.c., FCC Construction SA and P Elliott & Co. The latter two will build the hospital in a joint venture. Interserve will provide "hard" FM services for 30 years once the hospital opens, including mechanical and electrical maintenance, estates management, grounds maintenance, utilities management and the provision and operation of a helpdesk.
The hospital, located on a 52-acre greenfield site at Wolf Lough to the north of Enniskillen, will be the first in Northern Ireland with 100 per cent single-bed, en-suite rooms. There will be more than 300 beds and an overall floor area of approximately 65,000 sq m. The hospital will provide a wide range of inpatient, outpatient and day-case services including accident and emergency, diagnostic services, an observation and assessment unit, elective/ planned surgery and acute medical/surgical services.

This is the second PFI contract on which we have reached financial close this year - Derry Schools, also in Northern Ireland, was the first. These important projects, together with other preferred bidder appointments thus far in 2009 in the waste and education sectors, demonstrate Interserve's strength in key social infrastructure sectors."
