Carillion PLC03 April 2008 3 April 2008 Carillion joint venture selected as preferred bidder on Tameside Building Schools for the Future PPP contract valued at £300 million Carillion and its joint venture partners, The Local Education Partnership (LEP),have been appointed as the preferred bidder for the £300 million TamesideBuilding Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. The LEP will initially deliver twelve secondary and special schools, valued at£220 million in the current wave of the BSF programme. Construction work willbegin in mid 2008 and will be completed by the end of 2010. Carillion will carry out the construction work, valued at £165 million, and willalso provide facilities management services for three of the new schools overthe 25-year concession contracts, worth approximately £55 million. Carillionshall be investing approximately £3.25m of equity in the project. The LEP will also deliver further new schools for Tameside Metropolitan BoroughCouncil in subsequent waves of the BSF programme, to a total value of £300million, and may deliver other community and regeneration projects, subject toreceiving the necessary approvals. Commenting, Carillion chief executive, John McDonough, said: "We are delightedto have been selected as preferred bidder on our third major project under theBSF programme, which is a strong growth area for Carillion. I am particularlypleased that our proposals for this programme align closely with TamesideMetropolitan Borough Council's vision to provide transformational learning thatraises the aspirations and expectations of the people of Tameside." Councillor Roy Oldham, Executive Leader of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Councilsaid: "This project represents the best opportunity to invest in our schools ingenerations.
