Burren Energy PLC21 September 2006 21 September 2006 Burren Energy Plc Drilling Update : Congo (Brazzaville) Maurel & Prom has made the following announcement in relation to results of thefirst exploration well on the Loufika prospect within the Kouilou license areain Congo (Brazzaville), where it acts as operator : "The Loufika-1 exploration well, situated 35 km south-east of the M'Boundifield, has encountered, at a depth of 551 metres, a 100 metre thick sandstonereservoir of which the upper 50 metres are oil-bearing. The initial tests on apart of this oil-bearing section produced a flow rate on pump of 380 bopd of a26 degrees API anhydrous oil. The contractor group envisages drilling severalfurther wells in order to appraise the size of this accumulation. This discovery of an entirely new play, which has the possibility to extendthroughout the Congolese coastal basin (i.e. the Kouilou and La Noumbi licenseareas), was made in the upper pre-salt layers. Additional works on both thesetwo licenses will be undertaken to further explore this new play. A new exploration well "Loufika Deep", having the conventional Vandji reservoiras objective, will be spudded once the testing of the current Loufika well iscompleted." Burren has a 35% interest in the Kouilou exploration license.
