Regarding the 3 ships positioned around Venus today. Pacific Guillemot was one of them but has now left. However she’s not heading to Walvis Bay like all of the previous trips done by the Pacific support ships. Instrad she’s heading to Luderitz. No more supplies to bring from storage at Walvis….. job done… news imminent !!

The CEO is doing the right thing, which is to extend the licence by another year ‘at the appropriate time’. We all know that we need a farm-out, so the ‘appropriate time’ is when a conditional farm out agreement is reached or, at least, more likely to happen. Renewing the licence with no prospect of a farm-out (eg. if Graff & Venus had both been dry) would have been a reckless waste of money and not in the shareholders best interest. So then, now that Graff ( & hopefully Venus) have been proven, then I expect that the application to extend will be made. As for Namibia Govmt, I think it’s almost certain they will grant the extension. By refusing, other explorers would lose confidence about making further investment and a very dark shadow would be cast over their offshore oil industry before its even started.
Well, as suspected, we now know that Total experienced some issues when drilling Venus. Two side track drills had to be made and there were also some problems with the casing. This was all due to the sheer depth of water they were drilling in. After, some delays they seem to have got there in the end. I’ve been led to believe that a “staggering” discovery has been made ( not verified though). There needs to be 750million to 1billion barrels down there to make it a viable project…. word is that the discovery is much bigger than this.
Clearly though, the water depth is an issue. So then, now that the oil is proven, how about a farm out with someone who has the same source rock and just as much oil, but in water at only 1/3 the depth of Venus…. sounds like a plan to me ?
Definitely something unusual going on at Venus today. Maersk Voyager, the drill ship, has not had her position updated on Marine Tracker for nearly 10 hours. All other ships in the area are updating every few minutes. It will be interesting to see if she’s moved position … possibly indicating drill completion. Let’s wait & see.
I can’t access the full article but the words “reason to believe” are interesting !

There you go guys… all confirmed… Shell Graff 2 !!

My reading of this is that Bourbon Ruby is positioned right at Graff-1, whereas Ensco-10 has taken up a new position to the south- west of Graff-1. This new position won’t have a name, so the marine satellite trackers are just using ‘ Offshore Namibia’ as the location. It’s a bit early to say, but if Ensco stays where she is, it’s probably the spot Shell have chosen for the second drill. That’s a lightning quick turnaround since Drill 1 and, given the excitement being expressed by the Namib govmt last week, it feels like there is perhaps an economy-changing discovery which they wish to push forward urgently. Just my thoughts :)
Hi guys… I did extend my research a bit further and I managed to make contact with some of the oil & gas reporters who have posted exclusives about various exploration projects around the world. I’m told that Total are keeping things very secure around Venus. However, they are definitely now drilling in the target zone and news will break imminently. I appreciate that’s not a particularly interesting update but, rest assured, they are in the target zone as we speak. I can’t say if they have hit oil or not, but they are where they wanted to be. Hang on in there !
Great stuff Delito….. just as a cross-check it also looks like Bourbon Ruby ( one of the support vessels from Drill 1) is also heading to Graff. I guess we’ll know for sure after 3pm tomorrow (local time) that being Ensco’s ETA for wherever she’s heading. Would be nice to see Graff progressing so quickly:)
@Deliman …. Ensco 10 seems to be on its way back to Graff, presumably to start the second drill. However she has made several complete u-turn manoeuvres as if she was going back to Walvis, only for her to u-turn again and continue towards Graff. I’m just curious as to why she might do that….. thought you might know given you are in the trade ? Thank you.
Well that’s a bit weird…. Ensco 10 has turned round and is currently heading back towards Walvis ? Destination still shows as Offshore Namibia with an arrival time of Sun 13th Feb. All I can think of is that the captain forgot to pack the champagne and cigars :)
Very, very interesting !! Ensco has moved out of Walvis Bay and is heading in a south-westerly direction. The destination is described as ‘Offshore Namibia’ and estimated arrival date is Sunday 13th Feb. So then, she’s going somewhere which is in the same direction as Shell Graff and takes the same amount of time to get there !!! What’s your money on guys? ;)
That flurry in the SP started when Ensco-10, the Shell Graff drill ship, left dockside and headed out of Walvis Bay. Far too early to say where she is going, she may even just anchor down in the bay, worth keeping an eye on though. Could she be heading straight back to Graff for the second drill ? …. it should become clear in the next 30 minutes. :)
I was just reading that myself OGM. It’s quite funny… Shell & Qatar are quite reserved in their statements whereas the Namibian Govmt can’t contain their excitement. It was the same with the Reuters interview with Maggy Shino yesterday. Maggy…. she knows :)
