Engineer Babcock International has won an extension to its contract to service EDF Energy's nuclear power stations in the UK. Babcock's Cavendish Nuclear subsidiary will continue to provide fuel route and other services to the EDF fleet of advanced gas-cooled (AGR) reactor and pressurised water reactor stations, currently worth over £40m per year. Babcock said the agreements, which will be in place until the last of the AGR stations stop generating electricity in an estimated 16 years' time, also create "the potential for growth through the provision of additional services". Group chief executive Peter Rogers said: "I am delighted that Cavendish Nuclear has signed these agreements today, supporting and strengthening its long-term relationship with EDF Energy. "These agreements provide a structure that will safely maximise the output from EDF Energy's existing fleet of nuclear stations."

The Aberdeen-based company said it had taken the decision as a result of the falling oil price as well as high operating costs. Contractors operating onshore and offshore in the UK will see a pay cut of up to 10% from January. It follows a 10% cut which was announced in May. Some will be offered the opportunity to become staff. The wage cuts will affect 60 UK offshore contractors and 1,250 onshore contractors. Wood Group said about a third of its 12,000 UK onshore staff will have their salaries frozen. line
