I'm a rural Dorset person, what does "15 minute communities" mean or entail?
Lamppost charging sounds great. What would that cost? (All that power wiring and new sub-stations to handle it.)
And are the copper cable thieves rubbing their hands?
I'm not being flippant as wireless charging would be good but impractical in many places.
How quickly would leaking H2 dissipate in a tunnel?
I appreciate moving trains and ventilation etc. , but perhaps they think it is too much of a risk?
Perhaps we'll have Na-Ion batteries soon (just kidding).
I just hope that things like this (below) don't give a negative view to those with the money and the influence.

And supply chain problems are affecting just about everyone.
Perhaps the Economist have just put the two things together - unless they have unique access to ITM's inner sanctum.

Whilst Ammonia has been mentioned re transport for many years this is the first time I've seen any cost analysis.
It would be useful if the figures can be corroborated.
I read a couple of (not peer reviewed) articles saying Hydrogen in an ICE engine is roughly half the 'efficiency' as Fuel cell.
So perhaps an extra percent = "super efficient"? You know what marketing departments are like.

BTW: Yes, frozen nipples a minor technicality but when I saw a pile of old people at a hot Californian H2 filling station getting in a frozen pickle I was imagining Mr Bloggs at a damp UK fueling station attached to a block of ice :)
Anyway, that wouldn't stop me getting an FCEV if we had gas stations.

H2 is already stored as a liquid in vehicles. Are they saying cryo rather than high pressure?
If so, good luck with parking your car at the airport for 2 weeks :)

I completely agree with the comments regarding BEV.
FCEV is always going to be a hybrid (or 'range extender') style of architecture.
H2 fuelling benefits have been known for a long time. I just worry that if Government (any colour) is being advised by 'experts' such as the chap recently on the Fully Charged Show (obsessive BEV Fan Boys) then progress will be slow unless private industry says "Sod 'em" and develops an infrastructure.
Or, as BB says, incumbents who are 12 years old with no experience in industry or the Real World.
(Probably the same types who couldn't care less about energy wasted by Cryptomining).
I fear that all these 'right on' car manufacturers will commit all their production lines to BEV and discover it isn't the only or best solution.
Drivetrain changes to FCEV would be relatively minor but structural changes for H2 cylinder location is major, costly and time consuming.
The only negative point I have seen wrt mass H2 FCEVs so far has been freezing nozzles. A cure is surely not beyond the wit of man.
The technology may be horses-for-courses but this inept lethargy towards H2 by Government is incredible.
(I would also like to see a move towards Sodium Ion batteries for storage rather than lithium, again, where appropriate).
Obviously electricity prices will fall but when the Tax/Duty income from fossil fuel wanes then something will happen to derive more income from EV transport.
For the average punter, they want reasonably cheap & easy vehicle use without anxiety.

From the articles with Toyota H2 ICE versus Fuel cell it was roughly a factor of 2.
An un-peer-reviewed video of the Toyota H2 V8 required an impractical amount of H2 storage tanks to give a decent range.

So many comparisons need further scrutiny and so many people don't seem to read past the headlines let alone Fact Check where possible. Check No.1 ; author's motivation.
I totally agree with all the above.
You don't have to look far for the efficiencies of Fuel Cell versus ICE.
My only query re Fuel Cell is long term reliability and ageing figures when vehicular fuel cells become mass produced.
I don't imagine they are cheap and then we're back to the similar concerns regarding battery replacement costs in BEVs.
I don't know how easy they are to 'fix' if contaminated.
Plus, of course, the battery cost in a FCEV.
I may be over-worrying!
With petrol/gasoline/diesel fueled ICE DI engines there worries about carbon build up becoming an extra cost longer term.
Blimey, nothing is cheap to run :)
An exciting simulation for sure. I doubt it'll ever happen but, nevertheless, increases H2 profile I guess.
I don't know whether you saw the Toyota/Yamaha H2 V8 ICE specs but the fuel tanks would have to be rather large for a decent range. I just hope it isn't used by some people to rubbish the potential of FCEVs (esp trucks & buses).
Absolutely BB, Newspapers have been doing it for years.
Youtubers with their 'shocked' and 'destroyed' and 'Flat Earth' thumbnail titles do a pretty good job too.
The public lap it up, especially if it reinforces one's own strong beliefs.
Ditto many Internet articles.
I hear that NASA are launching their hydrogen FCEV soon.
