BP says evacuating some workers from U.S. Gulf oil platforms

Oct 2 (Reuters) - BP Plc said on Wednesday it wasevacuating some workers from its oil and natural gas platformsin the Gulf of Mexico as a low-pressure system threatened tostrengthen into a tropical storm.

BP said on its website that workers not essential to oil andgas production were being evacuated as some forecasts suggestedthe weather system could cross the central Gulf, where BPoperates four platforms. Those include Thunder Horse, thelargest platform in the world, which can produce up to 250,000barrels per day of oil and 200 million cubic feet of naturalgas.

The company also said oil and natural gas production at allBP-operated platforms remains online at this time.
