SHIREBROOK, England, Sept 7 (Reuters) - British retailerSports Direct promised to improve working conditions ata stormy annual meeting as it attempted to rehabilitate thevillified brand after months of negative headlines and criticismfrom politicians.
"We agree the system is not good enough and we are going toimprove it," Chairman Keith Hellawell told the company'smeeting, where he faced multiple questions from angryshareholders.
The discount sports wear chain said on Tuesday it wouldoffer directly employed shop workers the option of switching to contracts with guaranteed minimum amount of work, after itpublished results of review into its treatment of thousands ofemployees at its Shirebrook warehouse.
