(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Friday reported a rise in traffic in August and a sharp improvement in load factor.
The Irish low-cost airline said passenger numbers in August were up 52% on a year before, rising to 16.9 million from 11.1 million. Load factor also showed a significant improvement, growing to 96% from 82%.
Passenger numbers for the rolling 12-months to August surged to 148.0 million from 44.0 million a year earlier. On a rolling 12-month basis, load factor was 89% compared to 75%.
Ryanair's August passenger numbers were its best so far this year, eclipsing July's 16.8 million.
The company said it operated over 92,800 flights in August.
The growth in August comes despite Ryanair being faced with strike action in Spain over the summer.
The USO and SITCPLA unions have called a third wave of 24-hour work stoppages from August 8 until January 7, 2023, arguing that Ryanair has refused "to engage in any dialogue". However, Ryanair has said the unions only represent a small number of its Spanish crew.
Ryanair said on Tuesday that it will operate more than 3,000 daily flights to and from 21 UK airports this winter, to destinations such as Stansted to Lapland, Finland; Liverpool to Rome, Italy; Birmingham to Stockholm, Sweden; and Edinburgh to Grenoble, France.
Shares were untraded in Dublin early Friday.
