LONDON (Alliance News) - GlaxoSmithKline PLC is facing new allegations of corruption, this time in Romania, following on from the fine it paid in China last year and amid ongoing internal investigations into staff misconduct, Reuters reports.
The pharmaceutical company said it was looking into claims of improper payments set out in a whistleblower email sent to the company's top management on Monday, a copy of which was seen by Reuters.
Glaxo is already investigating allegations of bribery in Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Iraq.
The whistleblower email claims that doctors in Romania were notionally paid for speaking engagements but, in three of the six cases cited, did not give a speech. The email alleges those payments were made to the doctors for prescribing Glaxo medicines.
