Topps Tiles Taps Former Carpetright Chief Darren Shapland As Chairman

Wed, 25th Feb 2015 09:21

LONDON (Alliance News) - Floor coverings retailer Topps Tiles PLC Wednesday said former Carpetright PLC Chief Executive Darren Shapland will become its new non-executive chairman when Michael Jack retires next month.

Topps Tiles said Jack will retire following the company's board meeting on March 18, having served on the board since 1999.

Jack will be succeed by Shapland, who will join the Topps Tiles board with effect from March 19.

Shapland stepped down as CEO from Carpetright in October 2013 following a number of profit warnings from the carpet retailer. He's currently chairman of discount chain Poundland Group PLC, and is also a non-executive director at Ladbrokes PLC and Wolseley PLC.

"[Shapland's] many years of experience with some of the leading retailers in the UK, including a number within the home improvement market, will be of great benefit to Topps as we home in on our target of one third of the market and consider our future strategic direction," said Topps Tiles Chief Executive Matthew Williams in a statement.

Topps Tiles shares were trading at 119.50 pence Wednesday morning, up 0.4%.
