U.S. Cash Products-Chicago gasoline climbs on BP Whiting problems

Fri, 05th Aug 2016 00:58

HOUSTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Gasoline climbed in the Chicago market on Thursday astraders swapped speculation about problems compounding at BP Plc's Whiting, Indianarefinery, which has been contending with at least two shut production units and amalfunctioning wastewater treatment plant. Chicago CBOB gasoline climbed 2.75 cents to 10.00 cents a gallon above RBOB forSeptember on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gasoline also gained in the Group 3market, though by 1.25 cents to 5 cents over NYMEX RBOB. Diesel for prompt delivery rose in both Chicago and the Group 3 region of the Midwestas refiners were buying in light of refinery unit outages in the Midwest. Gulf Coast gasoline slid 1 cent to 1.5 cents under NYMEX RBOB as Louisiana refineriesrebounded from outages earlier this week. As a result the arb for sending gasoline fromthe Gulf Coast to the Midwest is open, and may push prices in the central United Statesback down, traders said. Gulf diesel increased by 1.75 cents in the Gulf to a 4.65-cent discount under NYMEXheating oil on increasing demand. In New York Harbor, M4 conventional gasoline fell by 0.75 cents a gallon to a1.75-cent discount against the September contract, traders said. Ultra low sulfur diesel and heating oil both traded 0.50 cent higher, with dieseltrading at a 1.50-cent discount and heating oil trading at a 12-cent discount, traderssaid. Renewable fuel (D6) Renewable Identification Number (RIN) credits for 2016 compliancetraded from 87.5 cents to 90 cents each, traders said. Biomass-based diesel (D4) RINs for the current year traded at 95 and 96 cents each.
