US bank JP Morgan was the world's best performing investment bank in the first six months of 2014, making $11.5bn (£7.05bn) in revenue.Data released on Thursday by industry analytics firm Coalition showed that the bank topped the rankings for both its fixed income and deals advisory business, with Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank joint second.Bank of America Merril Lynch and Citi completed the top five, followed by Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Barclays, UBS and BNP Paribas in tenth position. The result will come as boost to JP Morgan's chances of retaining its top slot in the full-year league tables, a spot it has held since publication of Coalition's rankings began in 2010.Citi and Deutsche Bank were joint-first alongside JP Morgan in fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC), a business arm which proved particularly for the three banks, with securing $5.9bn in revenue in the six months to the end of June.New regulations forcing lenders to hold more capital against the business and a drastic fall in interest rates have contributed to a steady decline in FICC trading since 2008 and Coalition expects the full year FICC revenue to fall 9% to $67.4bn at the top 10 investment banks in the world. The 10 lenders are also expected to see their collective full year revenues fall to $150.7bn, a 2% decline year-on-year, according to a report by industry analytics firm Coalition. The equities rankings were topped by Morgan Stanley for the second consecutive year, as the bank reported $2.8bn in revenue in the first six months of 2014, while JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs shared second place. The latter moved up one spot in the rankings of lenders' investment banking divisions alongside JP Morgan and Bank of America, with each bank reporting a first half revenue of about $3bn.
