Panmure Gordon doesn't think PZ Cussons' plans to expand its presence in food and nutrition in Nigeria will have any short-term impact on forecasts, but is a "potentially significant" growth platform for the medium term. The company best known in Britain as a soap-maker is establishing a food ingredients business as a joint venture (JV) with the large Asian agribusiness Wilmar International, which is listed in Singapore with a market cap of $29bn. However, even though the broker sees a significant potential for the group, this is a medium-term opportunity and won't have any material effect on its forecasts for 2011-2013. The broker notes that the shares are very close to its 400p target price, and continues with its 'hold' recommendation. While Cambridge based bioscience firm Abcam has said it will meet expectations for the full year, finnCap believes its current share price is "overly generous" as the company's growth rate is slowing. Even though Monday's trading update did not give any half-year forecasts, the statement pointed to the group's confidence in meeting market expectations. However, finnCap has kept its estimates towards the bottom of the consensus range, but did note that "there may be scope for a marginal increase in these as we progress towards the full year end." Abcam's current earnings multiple outweighs the broker's, and that coupled with slowing growth underpins the broker's 'sell' rating, along with a 282p target price.Panmure Gordon (PG) believes that Kirkland Lake Gold presents a buying opportunity as the company expands production capacity and should benefit from rising gold prices. The gold miner has already produced a record 21,542 ounces of gold in the second quarter, and continues to target 90-100,000 ounces for the year. It also projects production to double within the next year, and expects to produce 180-200,000 ounces in 2013 (the first full year at the expanded rate). Additionally, as PG raises its gold price assumption from $1,100/oz to $1,250/oz, it also ups Kirkland's target price from 630p to 982p and confirms a 'buy' rating.
