I see BP plan on reversing an earlier decision to sell it’s holding in North Sea Andrew oil and gas fields and they are also in talks to buy JX Nippons North Sea stake.
Maybe a sign of things to come
In the words of Greta thunberg. “ you can shove your climate crisis up your **** “
"... and very infrequently fly (unlike Greta)"
===================================================
DTN, I don't think Greta flies very much, if at all.
I believe she got the train to COP....or she might have walked across the North sea.
She went to the UN in New York a few years back and she sailed there....a professional crew volunteered to sail her across the Atlantic, presumably because she knew she would be accused of hypocrisy if she flew.
I reckon if she farted in public some people would blame her for emitting methane!!
BTW I wish I did half of what you do for the planet...you tree hugger!!
Great bit of farce at COP26.COALs been phased out , banned effectively by 2040.course neither china, australia, the US OR india is in the deal.place is a joke.
"green" is a very subjective word and concept.
I have over £400k in rdsb/bp, and three diesel cars - so on the face of it im definately off Gretas christmas card list.
But when you dig into the actual facts im far more 'green' than she is.
My house is soley heated by biomas heating.
My house has 4kw of solar
My house is internally insulated as well as cavity.
My house has a rainwater harvesting system (my forte) so my water bill is less than £150/year
One car, the main hack, does in excess of 60 mpg. Another does 3k miles only a year, whilst the other is my employers vehicle so 8m stuck with that.
I holiday in the UK and very infrequently fly (unlike Greta).
And all funded by myself and installed 10 years ago when Greta was practically still in nappies.
We can all do out bit, but electric cars and no gas boilers are not the only ways of being 'green' and doing it. When was the last time you heard 'heavy rain' and rainwater harvesting in the same news item? thats right, never, because its not a media ramped up trendy topic.
Oil and gas are required until more people thing past the media hyped ****** of just EV's (which i'll never buy because they are not green when considered in the whole)
Jmho of course.
" As an example they could cite how well the UK functioned for a week when the petrol / diesel was in the wrong place - never mind not available. "
=============================================================
If more people have EV's then their is less dependence on petrol & diesel. But then the debate shifts, where do we get the extra electricity to charge the EV's?.....especially since most will be recharged during the night when the sun don't shine. So what if the wind don't blow (which happened recently)? Where are we gonna get all the electricity from?
They are talking about Sizewell C nuclear plant but that hasn't even been started yet.....don't panic!!
As well as pointing out how Shell (and the other Oil / Gas companies) need profits from legacy fuels to pay for green transition, they need to start pointing out very clearly how the world still needs oil and gas for heat / transport for the next 20 years. As an example they could cite how well the UK functioned for a week when the petrol / diesel was in the wrong place - never mind not available.
I'm all for a green transition but some people need a reality check on how we're going to manage it.
Pound plunges against the dollar and RDSB responds very quickly (we earn in dollars).

I think we will catch up, Shell investors always seem to be a little slow out of the blocks- hope we see a 2% rise today
$16bn of cash flow in one quarter. That is $64bn on annual basis (x4) against EV of $175bn + $57.5bn = $232.5
EV / CFFO = $232.5/$64bn = 3.63 - that's about half our US peers - Exxon and Chevron.
$8.2bn cut in net debt in just one quarter as well as buybacks and dividends paid.
A true cash machine. The Cash King of the Supermajors.
This bad boy might be the cheapest large-cap in the world today and it has a long way to climb.
All IMHO DYOR

.....reached 1740 on 11th Oct at the current OP... doh!
Yes Barrie - rescued by Brent? A happy coincidence that doesn't necessarily validate the support level. Ha! Still let's hope it does hold, even through ex-div.
Another observation from the same chart is that RDS reached 1740 on 11th Oct at the current sp, so if we filter out the variations in OP, RDS has lost about 75p, or about 4.5% in underlying value since then. It's not a big deal for LTH's like me - but a meaningful profit/loss in trading terms.

OIL galloping away nearly 3% and we are just under 1%.
On the very positive side looks like the slide has stopped...
Analyst question...Worth another listen...

Roperace: fair point but presumably the CO2 already existed - so it's effectively making jet fuel that can then be used without creating more CO2? Effectively re-cycling CO2.
RDSB appears to have come back from 1630 support level charted by Boyobach
I’m looking forward to sensational Q4 results and a good year possibly a “2” handle on SP next year
GLA and all usual caveats apply so DYOR
It is a transition away from fossil fuels to greener forms of energy. The speed of that transition is the important bit. Oil companies will want a slow transition in order to maximise their profits from oil & gas, which will give them the resources to invest in greener technologies. The dilemma for companies like SHell is that they don't necessarily have control over the transition process....if the switch to green energy is rapid - due to cheap green tech from China (for example) - they could be left with rapidly falling revenues and insufficient resources to invest in the green side of their business.
It must be a tricky dilemma for O&G management. I expect they will adopt a wait & see policy, combined with some limited well advertised greenwashing. A leopard cannot change its spots.....or more prescisely it takes a long time over many generations for the 'spotty' gene to weaken due to natural selection. Hoepfully SHell management are fleet footed enough to take decisive action IF (big IF) the green revolution is rapid.
Good article Daytrade, something that was always obvious to me but he puts it across in a clear concise manner!!! Hope they rightly so win the dutch court case and get the go ahead for Cambo. Anyone know how long it with take to appeal the dutch court case?
Neversellshell - looks interesting making ethanol from hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Combustion of any hydrocarbon (ethanol) generates water vapour and carbon dioxide. Unless it produces less CO2 (I don't know) than kerosene not too certain how this is that green. Granted it won't have come from oil but will it be as clean as we think. Just being devils advocate. An interesting dilemma.
Good!! I 100% agree with Ben.
I suspect Dan Loeb is motivated by something more self-serving and, consequently, of much less benefit to both the environment and RDS investors.
I actually agree with both N0mad and NBWallace, if that seems possible. I think it was way too soon for the sp to hit £20 but, equally, I think there's a lot further to go. I'm back to 'equal weight' after reacquiring another tranche today. It's too early to say whether the support at nominally 1630 will hold, but I'll happily go overweight by buying back another tranche if it enters bargain territory near my next target around £15. The upcoming ex-div means there's effectively a 17p cash-back for buyers prior to 11th November. Trading has enabled me to reduce my net average cost to below £9.50 from over £15 at the outset, so the highs and lows have served me well.
