I don't believe for one minute there were any hidden messages of support for the conflict but the whole theme of the advert belittles Christmas and, I repeat, rather like the standup comedy circuit, if they feel unable to joke or undermine certain other religious festivals then to soft-target others amounts to gutlessness. I'll also repeat that I am agnostic.
If anybody thinks the ad is 'anti-Christian' then I'd advise not watching 'Life of Brian' over the holidays as you'll go absolutely apoplectic. Really can't see anything anti-Christian in the ad - just it knocking some of the sillier traditions and trappings of Christmas that many of us grin and bear and that have absolutely nothing to do with the religious meaning of Christmas and everything to do with the commercialisation of it. I think it's a decent ad and I get what it's trying to get across. So a thumbs up from me.
Thank you neilhumphreys5ya,
One of the best sketches ever. Cheers mate, cheered me right up.
Another twitter user summing the general mood up nicely "Smashing up loved and cherished Christmas decorations, burning tradition and ruining other people’s fun makes you happy, M&S? Wow.
You do you. I’ll go somewhere else"
They urgently need to apologize and pull this ad, it's going to have a very damaging effect on sales. Thousands are threatening to boycott them over this.
Taverham, sorry.
I read socks as stocks, quite funny that. 🤣
I'm not the worlds best keyboard warrior.
The company has apologised and edited out the part where red, green and silver paper was thrown on the fire - because it upset the pro-palestinian crowd. But the rest of the ad which trashes Christmas is being kept. One twitter user summed this up perfectly by saying "Just in case anyone was in any doubt @marksandspencer
would like to clarify that they only intended to insult British people" - couldn't put it better myself.
Taverham, Blackgold25876, ect
I understand your "anger", but the advert was ill advised at worst.
But this is not the place to vent your frustrations, stating your not going to buy any MKS shares, will not achieve anything.
Get out there and protest, use Facebook, X, for you keyboard warrioring. E-Mail the marketing department, even E-Mail Stuart Machin.
On a lighter note at least the share price is slightly up.
...........or eid al fitr.
I do find the attacks on our culture quite upsetting - we tolerate all sorts of protests by newcomers and get no gratitude for what we offer. The very people who should be upholding our values seem quite happy to always find the negatives from everything we do or have done. Not going to buy any socks from MKS this year in protest. That will sort the country out.
The question I was left asking (even as an agnostic) was, would they have run a similar themed advert for Ramadan?
Thankfully the storm came to nothing but an exaggeration.
Exactly, this will be a massive sell. Huge error on the PR dept.
From a commercial point of view, running an ad trashing Christmas, whacking elves and burning Christmas cards AT WHAT IS A KEY PERIOD IN THE CALENDAR for Marks and Spencer, is a terrible lack of judgement on their behalf.
On the one hand they're attacking Christmas festivities and offending millions of Christians, whilst at the same time they're asking us to go to their stores and spend loads of money celebrating it - whoever is responsible should be fired out the door. As another poster correctly said earlier, this is comparable to the Bud light gaffe, and it's going to cost this company dearly.
Skins waterproof, get them out there, slackers. Picea sitchensis?
I am waiting for this rain to stop so my chaps can plant a few trees, but I’m bored now.
Have a great day whatever you’re persuasion😊
Lol - M&S are utter garbage. See you all soon hahahahahah
All you invested here. The ad was dreadful and I really hope they fall on the sword like bud light
It's not the greatest ad, but the message I got, was:- stop feeling obliged to do what the sheep do, and just do what makes you happy at Christmas. Nothing anti religious. Extremists will always find a way of exaggerating and bending elements to make it political. Sad fact of the world we live in.
It’s a storm in a teacup, someone has read the tea leaves.
There was no mention of the 2 state conflict or their tormentors in August when the advert was made, green red and gold are colours traditionally used at Christmas .
Mks have apologised for upsetting a few people but it’s hard to please everybody.
I for one love the advert.
Blackgold - "M&S are on my watch list and I will continue to talk ill of M&S until they pull that dreadful ad." - do you honestly believe that anything you say will affect the share price, seriously ? - you are deluded -
So you will do nothing lol sums up how much you care about your religion.
Hit the share price how? you don't even own shares, one man band going to crash the share price lol
No the only way you can hurt big companies like M&S is by the share price.
I dont do protests lol protests ...... grow up. hit them by the share price
Blackgold25876
Go and protest then instead of sitting behind a screen, nothing will change if you do noting.
