Fastjet shares tipped in The Sun today. This is how it reads: "Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou helped change the course of aviation history in Europe when he founded his bright orange EASYJET airline empire — and now he has set his sights on doing the same in Africa. He has joined forces with conglomerate LONRHO and Ed Winter, who helped set up the low-cost airline GO for British Airways, to take the no-frills airline revolution to Tanzania, Ethiopia and beyond with FASTJET. Fastjet launched at the end of November with a flight from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania — and in true Stelios fashion has hardly been out of the news since, with expansion in South Africa a possibility. The growth potential is huge with Fastjet’s £13 fares — pre-taxes of course — cheaper than travelling long distances on a coach. Fasten your seat belt and buy the shares."

Kibu, no one is denying that people who bought on the basis of a tip in the Times lost money - Waller's point is that is the risk in penny shares where large fluctautions in price can happen without anything affecting the fundamentals.They will have aslo lost money in some of the bigger shares too. But look, everyone should make up their own minds base on research. Also, Lenigas's swashbuckling, but now ghostly presence has contaminated the brand, perhaps?
Allowing for buy/sell spread and expenses, you'd have lost almost DOUBLE the failure that was quoted in "Sat 10.50" BB posting summarising Times's Tempus. Four hundred quid cash invested then would give you about three hundred quid cash now. Be honest. kibu
Why's no one checking in for the night at the corner of Rissik & Pritchard? Seems that most that get off the bus head straight for Edgars or McDonalds and then go home. Guess it's not easy to find a hotel in that area. kibu
Lonrho was one of last New Year's share tips from the Tempus column written by Martin Waller. In today's paper, he reviews his selections, which include Glencore, Vodafone, and BG Group (all down), and Associated British Foods, Anite, and Rolls-Royce (all up). Lonrho was also one of the fallers with a share price decline of 13.2%. So why the fall? Here is what Waller says: "Lonrho was my penny share. This is what remains of the old Empire created by Tiny Rowland, taking in agribusiness, hotels and other activities across Africa. In September, David Lenigas, the Australian entrepreneur who has run it for the past seven years, quit to concentrate on its fledgeling airline, a link-up with Sir Stelois Haji-Ionnou. There is no rational reason for the shares' decline, as the group is progressing on all fronts. Penny stocks are often volatile." So there you are.enthusiats and critics make of that what you will.I'm in for the long term though. Africa, as I have said before, is a big growth story.

Overheard at breakfast at the May Fair Hotel this morning: Loud, rotund Australian: "A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before - I took a bus home. I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise, as I have never driven a bus before, and am not sure where I got this one."

The gist of the article was that Leni was an 'entrepreneur' rather than a 'manager', thus no longer the right guy to have at the helm. Interesting that the share price is ticking upwards though.

If FJET takes off (and there's plenty of chatter about "punt for 2013" around the place), its market cap could quickly catch up with LONR's current c£130m/US$200m which would be Jolly puzzling (given Lonr's substantial stake in FJET)

Fastjet has just announced a 'provisional agreement' to purchase defunct SA airline 1time. The price is 7p but there will be a package of obligations that will lower the bargain value. It's a risk and the planes are not as wished but it represents a great opportunity for Lonrho/Fastjet to bring SA into their network. More positive news is that the discussions with Emirates are reaching a more formal stage that, defying any obvious logic, could result in some form of commercial agreement. The sound of rustling paper is still more likely to be freshly printed share certificates than dividend payment slips but if anyone's mad enough to buy the story, Fastjet could jump. For the moment, it seems the chocks are having difficulty getting away.
If you're on the Pritchard Street bus approaching Rissik Street, could you just look out of the window and check on the Easyhotel progress? Supposedly this project in Johannesburg, just opposite Edgars, was to have been Lonrho's first Easyhotel of many. Like other Lonrho projects, it's all revs and no torque. The Easyhotel website has plenty of talk on the other hand but the date, which has now been put back to 'end of the year' looks unlikely too. The booking platform doesn't even list the hotel. An update from Lonrho is long overdue.

Missed your 8.30, jollyspeculator, but caught another at 6.54 this morning and made more dosh today than in a typical two weeks gainful employment. Was rather surprised that there were so few passengers on the Lonrho 8.30 and that it's now collapsed to '7 and something.' My recent 'holds' are beginning to look bearish. Perish the thought. I've now moved to 'no opinion' because the last time I had no clue about Lonrho it fell to 1.9p. Tuesday morning, I'll be on a 7.24 heading south and clueless about Lonrho. Which carriage will you be in?
Yes, this is strictly trading - stop loss at 7.7p - and if sp continues downward trajectory will look to re-enter at c6.5p
Not in here (though have been before), but pleased for you that 8p support held - when that was breached earlier in the day, it did put me off. Will be interesting one to watch next week.
