It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The fuel will be procured from Phulbari coal mine.
The thermal power project will consists of 2 turbines each with 1,000 MW nameplate capacity.
Development status

Crack find jolly chippy!!!! Its a coming đź’Ą
Check out the about us page on their website! May back up the information about GCM they have provided.
Sounds like Searcher is redundant!
Haha Doze was thinking similar. Maybe he is still snoozing
...a bit different - this was originally designed with 6000MW capability not 2000.
I can only surmise that once they have the site stripped back, a lot of coal will be heading for other power plants
6000mw was the total, not a single power plant
“Although a Scheme of Development for mine development was submitted to the Government of Bangladesh in 2005 and still awaits approval, this document did not portray the mine as “captive” with an ultimate deliverable to the Government being 6,000MW of reliable, low-cost power. To this end, the Company’s business model has developed significantly over time and the Project is now considered to comprise four integrated “Business Units”, being the captive coal mine and the three 2,000MW power projects that will be commissioned in-line with the ramp-up to the nameplate 15Mtpa coal production.”
2 turbines each with 1000 MW nameplate capacity is latest indication. I suppose satisfying local demand with local generation is sensible and surplus coal goes to mitigate capacity charges elsewhere.
This satisfies the urgency of the situation and Hasina is seen to be a saviour. ASAP please.
What a find Jolly Chippy, I find it interesting how they say “currently owned by GCM “which leads me to think that Power China are probably looking to buy out GCM and take the gravy. I just hope that they are prepared to pay a fair price for the company.
Hawkspear
What’s your fair price?
I am surprised by the lack of response from Jolly's find?
Looks pretty significant? Weird!
Decisions taken and no rns does suggest GCM is a in lame duck period but does show it is a development about to happen.
Enjoying the outdoors Goonerpete.

Seems to be coming together. Emphasising cleaner fuel as well.

It is becoming clear as I have said, that the detail of the China-Bangladesh relationship is a precursor to the GL but it has not stopped PC and Bangla (or was it actually GCM) from finessing Phulbari to focus politicians minds especially over the Teesta river which I can see crowded with large river going barges full of coal in the future.
